Chrome Legacy Browser Support Stable Update Timeline and Test Channel

Chrome Legacy Browser Support Stable Update Timeline and Test Channel
We have launched a Chrome Legacy Browser Support Test Channel so that you can test the next versions of the LBS Chrome Extension and MSI before they are promoted to stable. More information on how to setup and use this test channel can be found at the link below.

The next stable release of Legacy Browser Support is slated for early November. Starting with this upcoming version, and all subsequent stable/test versions, the MSI will be required in order for apps and websites to open in the appropriate browser. Therefore, it’s critical to make sure that you have deployed the stable MSI to your users before November so that Legacy Browser Support continues to function when it updates. You can find the download links for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the stable MSI at the link below.

Manage Chrome policies on Android and iOS from Google Admin console

Manage Chrome policies on Android and iOS from Google Admin console

Since April 2013, admins have had the capability to set 100+ Chrome policies for users on Chrome Devices, Windows, Mac, and Linux when they sign-in to Chrome with their Google Apps account.

Today we are providing an early preview of applying some of these same policies to Chrome on Android and iOS as well. For example, you set bookmarks through the Managed Bookmarks setting on Google Admin console and it gets pushed to Chrome on all 6 platforms, including mobile. Similarly, you can set the Proxy policy or the Password Manager policy once and it will apply on Chrome on all 6 platforms. For more information on how to turn on this early preview feature, please see the link below.

Google Chrome 64-bit for Mac and Windows

Google Chrome 64-bit for Mac and Windows
In late August we released Chrome 64-bit for Windows, which brought benefits in speed, security and stability. We’re now bringing these benefits to OS X with Chrome 64-bit for Mac, version 39, due to be released in Nov 2014. Unlike on Windows, where Chrome is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit, on Mac, Chrome will only be available in 64-bit with version 39 and after. As a result, 32-bit NPAPI plugins will not work on Chrome on Mac version 39 onwards.

Release Schedule
  • Windows: Stable version 37 is currently available as an opt-in via the Windows-64-bit link
  • Mac: Stable version 39 will be released to all customers in November 2014 via a Chrome update

Managing client certificates on Chrome devices just got simpler

Managing client certificates on Chrome devices just got simpler
Client certificates are required in many organizations to access EAP-TLS 802.1x WLAN or wired networks as well as mutual TLS protected web resources.

Today we are launching an easy way to provision and manage these certificates across a fleet of devices. We’re providing an API so that extensions can support a variety of enrollment protocols and workflows. At the same time, we ensure that the private key is TPM backed and never leaves the device.

The extension can be pushed and the EAP-TLS network configuration can be specified via the Admin console.
