Change to ‘Other calendars’ list order in Google Calendar

Change to ‘Other calendars’ list order in Google Calendar
To more easily make visible or hide calendars from the ‘Other calendars’ section in Google Calendar, we’ve made a change to its list order behavior. Calendars selected for viewing will now move up to the top of the list in alpha order, leaving the remaining unchecked calendars below in alpha order.

Support for third-party internationalized email addresses in Google Calendar

Support for third-party internationalized email addresses in Google Calendar
As announced recently for Gmail, we are launching support for internationalized email addresses in Google Calendar. This will allow people to use email addresses that contain accented or non-Latin characters to invite guests and share calendars, and perform any other action where email addresses are used by Calendar.

This includes both the domain name (to the right of the @ symbol) and/or the local-part (to the left of the @ symbol), as in 武@メール.グーグル.

Video call links in Calendar events for all Apps customers

Video call links in Calendar events for all Apps customers
Last week we announced the roll-out of Hangouts video calls for up to 15 participants to everyone on Google Apps. This applies to people with and without access to Google+, with either Google Talk or Google Hangouts chat enabled. Starting today, Google Calendar will automatically add video call links to new Calendar events for all Google Apps for Business and Education customers.

As announced earlier this year, administrators can disable this functionality for specific organizational units.

We plan to provide similar functionality to Google Apps for Government soon.

Hangouts video calls for all

Hangouts video calls for all
With today’s launch, people using Google Apps with access to Google Talk or Google Hangouts chat will now have the ability to create and join Hangout video calls for up to 15 participants. Participants will no longer need to ensure Google+ premium services are enabled, nor have a Google+ profile. Features such as sharing one’s screen to a team or automatically adding a Hangout to any Calendar event will also be available. Before a Google+ profile is created, a Hangouts participant will be able to:
  • Start Hangout video calls with up to 15 participants
  • Include any external guests who have a Google account
  • Add, change or join a video call in a Google Calendar entry (coming soon)
  • Join or start a Hangout by URL or at g.co/hangout/ (and g.co/present/ to just present)
Please note that people without a Google+ profile will not be able to use Hangout apps other than screen share and chat, nor invite Google+ circles to a Hangout video call.
This enhancement will be supported in a coming version of the Android and iOS Hangout apps.

Release track:
  • Hangouts features (launching today) - Rapid release and Scheduled release
  • Calendar features (coming soon) - Rapid release, followed by Scheduled release two weeks later

Note: this launch only applies to Google Apps for Business, Education, and Government editions

Calendar GData API / Google Calendar Connectors deprecation

Calendar GData API / Google Calendar Connectors deprecation
Back in November 2011, we announced the deprecation of the Calendar GData API (v1, v2) when the APIv3 was made available. We’ll now be shutting down these older versions on November 17, 2014.

Any service dependent on the Calendar GData API (v1, v2), such as the Google Calendar Connectors (GCC), will no longer work as intended. GCC users should update to use Calendar Interop or their own custom built connectors that sync with v3 of the API.

Hangout links in Android Calendar app event views

Hangout links in Android Calendar app event views
We are updating the Calendar app on Android devices so that Hangout links are available to those viewing meeting events on mobile devices. A “Join Hangout” link will appear in meeting events if a Hangouts video call was added in Calendar. Named Hangout calls will appear the same as non-named calls. The name of the Hangout will not be visible. The “Join Hangout” link is not not editable from the Android Calendar event view. This change only impacts the Google Calendar app on Android devices.

Editions included:
Google Apps for Business and Education
